Michael Powers sings and plays blues favorites on Onyx Root (Baryon). Powers’ guitar work is more notable than his singing voice but most interesting is his choice of material, from Howlin Wolf’s “Baby’s Got A Train” to an off-beat rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Bird On A Wire” to garage-rock classics “She’s About A Mover” and “Psychotic Reaction.”
