#13] L'Altra By
This Chicago duo’s latest recording arrives as a delicious entree at the New Year’s musical table. The recipe is as follows: mix one third cup This Mortal Coil, then throw in a dash of The Cocteau Twins. Let marinade for 30 minutes. In a separate bowl mix a teaspoon of Brian Eno, a smidgen of Robert Fripp, and a cup of Tangerine Dream. Add to marinade. Put ingredients in a shallow pan and bake in a pre-heated oven for 43 minutes at 425 degrees. Remove, let cool, and cut into delicious, small, bite-size morsels. Serves 2-6 people. It’s as simple as that. Recipe courtesy of Lindsay Anderson and Joseph Costa, ex-lovers and now collaborators on some of the most interesting and moving music produced today. Ethereal vocals combined with rich, textured instrumentation take L’Altra to a level that only few have found success at. It’s unfortunate that many people may not get to hear this beautiful album due to a lack of mainstream airplay. That’s why it is so important to seek these bands out and support them by buying their album. Here’s hoping that “Different Days” leads to different days.
