Jackie Greene, the 24-year old Californian, is definitely one of the most interesting new roots-based singer-songwriters and the very personification of an old soul in a young man’s body. Writing and performing original tunes as a teenager, Greene was discovered at a local open-mic night in northern California and went on to release his first studio album at the age of 21. Sweet Somewhere Bound is his second full-length release and a true work of heart. Embracing a subtle assortment of folk, blues, rock and country, Greene knows how to deliver the deeply personal sound of his music. And the simplicity of his work is audible in the earthiness of his vocals and the occasional sound of his breathing in between verses. With thirteen original tracks ranging from the folk-rock “About Cell Block #9”, the haunted romanticism of “Honey I Been Thinking About You” and the introspective balladry of “Write a Letter”, Greene has made Sweet Somewhere Bound a soulful balance of sparse acoustic intimacy and emotion-charged spontaneity.
