Theo And The Skyscrapers
(CD
Morpheus/Waxlips)
In their eponymous debut this New York City power-pop-punk quartet features lead
vocalist Theo Kogan formerly of The Lunachicks backed by ex-Toilet Boys co-frontman
Sean Pierce along with drummer Chris King and bassist Dimitry Makhonosky. Recorded
entirely at home, Theo and the Skyscrapers deliver straight ahead powerful rock
on such songs as LayEm Out, Down The Hole and Not
Alone the latter addressing all those who feel that they just dont
fit in. Theos strong vocals conjure up the best of Deborah Harry
as well as early 80s chanteuse Lene Lovich. There seems to be a recent surge
of woman singers who are not afraid to belt out a song. Theo lets loose and the
results are wonderfully refreshing. Punk-style vocals for woman have always seemed
to be lumped into one category - that of screaming, but Theo manages to convey
the power of the song without that. The CD is accompanied by a DVD featuring three
videos by renowned New York City video artist Rob Roth, for the songs Run
Rabbit Run, Time and Broken Girl.
