#25] Everybody Else By

Everybody Else
(CD
The Militia Group)
Named for a Kinks
B-side, LA- based Everybody Else tries and succeeds at the seemingly impossible
task of not sounding like everybody else, yet they could easily fit into whats
on radio today. On their eponymous release, crisp three and a half minute pop
songs abound with tight harmonies and great arrangements. The first single, Meat
Market, is an uptempo ditty about the LA club scene and one mans attempt
to get a phone number. Memoriam speaks of lost love with lyrics like,
I still see the blue, sunken barge / down by the shore and I / can taste
the blackberry juice on our fingers/ But theres an echo of careless, callow
footsteps / that run by so quickly. Rich Girls, Poor Girls is
an homage to the female shape, The Longest Hour Of My Life is a rock
ballad about being on the road and longing for home, and Alone In The World
is a melancholy look at life in the City of Broken Dreams. The release date for
this pop jewel is April 3rd.
