Terry hall And Mushtaq By
The Hour Of Two Lights
do you get when you cross a British music legend, a hip-hop Muslim,
a blind Algerian rapper, an Egyptian violinist, a Turkish percussionist,
a Syrian oud player, an Arabic pianist and a Jewish clarinetist?
The answer is one of the most delightful, eclectic, innovative and
truly unique albums of the year. Terry Hall former leader of the
seminal ska band The Specials, the genius behind Fun Boy Three and
the creative mastermind of The Colourfield has teamed up with British
music pioneer Mushtaq, formerly of the British-Asian band Fun-Da-Mental,
and produced an amazing product. An array of incredibly talented
musicians and vocalists give this album a texture that defies category.
All the tracks offer something distinctive and stimulating. Pay
particular attention to the track, "The Silent Wail" which
features a three minute gut wrenching solo by an incredible Mongolian
throat singer before it kicks into a Middle-Eastern dance-inducing
whirl. Grab the hookah, put on your fez and enjoy.
